Wholegrains
Why choose Wholegrain
Wholegrains are cereal grains that contain all three layers of the grain as it is grown naturally – the outer bran layer (fibre rich), the inner germ (nutrient rich) and the endosperm (starch component).
Wholegrain foods are a nutritious source of carbohydrate available to fuel our bodies. In addition, wholegrains provide many essential nutrients, including:
- Protein: vital for growth and maintenance of our body's cells.
- Fibre: both soluble and insoluble fibre, and resistant starch to help maintain a healthy digestive system.
- Vitamins: vitamin E, B vitamins to help energy release and folate to help maintain healthy red blood cells.
